Mazda revealed the Shinari four-door coupe concept today in Milan as a preview of their new "kobo" design direction, which appears to be taking the next generation Jaguar XF and Furai-zing it.

Not sure how I feel about that interior/center console, but the exterior... its beautiful.

Build it Mazda, build it now!

Even Mazda can design more "Jaguarish" cars than Callum can. That's pretty sad.

Mazda hit most of the traditional Jaguar styling points, right down to a stylized version of the Bertone/Hofmeister Kink introduced with the Pininfarina-tweaked XJ Series III. They even got a hint of the rear "hips under silk" curve around the C-pillar in there. As always, the devil is in the details, and Callum fails at it.

Well done, I'd buy one. Proof that the traditional Jaguar design language does not have to mean 'retro'.

It looks like a furai had a threeway with a CLS and the Lambo Estoque.

Front end looks great.

The rear looks to SC430 ish. I don't like it.

But overall it's pretty cool.

That thing is a MAZDA?!? Holy cow! :shock:

I wish they could build it, but sadly Mazda isn't a brand for the lethally boring executives who buy large four-door saloons new from the factory. Neither is the styling for them, imagine what would happen if you turned up at Milton Keynes Office Supplies in that!

But screw that, let's have them build it anyway! :mrgreen:

Sadly I can't think of a single Mazda platform that could underpin such a thing, unless they ballooned the RX-8 out to ridiculous dimensions. I just hope that when they translate it into a FWD family vehicle, the proportions stay somewhat intact, but the long hood vs short deck will be hard to keep.

That's the most production ready concept I've ever seen. Seriously. With exception of that center console screen, nothing looks like non-functioning concept quality work. From those pictures everything looks solidly built and put together. Too bad it probably isn't so.

Also, when viewed at a perfect side profile, I'm picking up a very strong Aston Martin Rapide vibe. Not that thats a bad thing.

Looks gorgeous, and judging by the rotor shapes on the wheels it's Wankel powered, slap in a 3-rotor version of the renesis or the new 16x, a real transmission and gimme!

He'd have to edit it before going over to Jaguar. Needs quad headlights to be an XJ.

I can see that as well, not bad at all... neither are the Scaglietti bits at the front and the large-Alfa-ness at the back. Think tail lights on a 156, for example.

Not hard to do, draw the light openings down towards the grille a little and stick in two more projectors.
