2019 F1 Season thread

That look hidious. F1 2021 is shaping up to be a good looking season, but someone with a gross taste can't help but ruin it every year.

Are the wheels big enough that they'd be able to read all that information? also the wheels aren't traveling at a constant rate so the system would have to be able to react to the rotation changes on the fly.

they'll be going to 18" wheels as well in 2021

I'm thinking about the people in the grandstands watching the race at the track. 18" is a decent size if it's a television you are watching from your house but trying to read the 18" television driving around the track at 200kph from the grandstands I'm not 100% convinced it's the best idea.

What a crazy morning. FP3 was delayed a few minutes because of a substantial accident in the F3 race:

And then qualifying was a giant mess with all the queuing and slip streaming tactics resulting in a botched final run in Q3.

So far this has been a crazy weekend, with FP1 being red flagged multiple times due to accidents. If tomorrow carries on like this, I cannot imagine what we are in for.

You get a summons to the stewards and you get a summons to the stewards and you get a summons to the stewards and you...!

It's actually a good move as it serves as a cut-off to where you're maximum of leaving the track is. Problem with this is, they didn't think about formula cars/drivers who generally take a sharper line as e.g. GT cars do, where the curb works perfectly fine. It's been there since last year, though I think they should just do a lot of astroturf throughout the whole Parabolica, so drivers don't even think about stepping over the white line - as it used to be with the gravel trap up until 2017.

Congrats to Ferrari for winning at home. Shame it couldn't have been a 1-2.

that was an awesome race!

but didn't believe for a second bottas would succeed where hamilton couldn't...
great race by leclerc!

but didn't believe for a second bottas would succeed where hamilton couldn't...

I wish he could've gotten it, but I agree with you ... he might have had a 7 lap-advantage with fresher tyres but getting close to the Ferrari with tyres that started to degrade and rapidly loosing downforce following the car in front, as well as having had to push to even close the gap to both of them ... I think he did really well and the criticism towards him being a second Barichello yesterday that couldn't succeed are utter bullshit.

Great, great race. My heart was pumping till the flag fell.

Great result for Leclerc, he'll enjoy that much more than he did Spa. Good defense, sometimes a little on the edge of what is reasonable but, I think stewards wouldn't dare penalize him. Hand out a 5 second time penalty to the leading Ferrari driver at Monza and you better have a police escort when you try to leave.

Vettel can't seem to get in the groove. He's feeling the pressure, and not acting like a 4 times world champion.

Also glad for Ric and Hulk, I'd really like seeing Renault up there fighting, at least with Red Bull. Which had a shit race to be honest. Nice recovery by Verstappen but he seems to be at the end of the pack a lot these days.

The SF90 has an unstable rear end which Vettel hasn't been able to work with I also think Ferrari are afraid of losing their straight line speed advantage if they fix it so they've made a someone lacklustre effort to do so. Having Charles in the car doing well probably doesn't help in that aspect but you can see that every once in a while even Charles is losing the rear a little.

Why would you fix a car for a number 2 driver ;) :p

Third DRS zone for Singapore.

so Haas has resigned Grosjean for another year...so it's starting to look bleak for Hulkenberg!
williams is still an option, but besides that, i think everyone has confirmed their drivers?
(except alfa romeo - but ferrari decides on giovinazzi's seat, and they won't go for hulkenberg)

(in case you hadn't heard - kubica is out at the end of the year at williams)

I think Alfa Romeo would be better off with Hulkenberg, he'd probably score a lot more points than Giovinazzi has. Kind of a shame that Kubica has decided to move on, I imagine his comeback would have looked a lot better had he not been with Williams during another one of their dark no where years.

I think Red Bull still haven't confirmed their second seat for next year and both Torro Rosso seats are unconfirmed as well.

problem is that alfa can't decide on the seat
ferrari gets to choose the driver as part of the engine/alfa romeo-sponsorship deal

horner said that kvyat will stay at torro rosso, and gasly and albon both will be retained, but after the season they will evaluate and decide which driver goes to which team

anyone else who had to fight not to fall asleep yesterday, or was that just me?
good for vettel he finally managed to get a win, but i'm glad i didn't have to lead that debriefing
leclerc was anything but a happy camper!

I had to fight to not fall asleep yesterday but I also was up from 3AM to 4:30AM, then was up at 8AM for the race, so I was down a few hours of sleep

I really enjoyed the race actually, the first stint was slow at the front but there was some stuff going on in the midfield and I knew something was possible in the pitstop phase because the top 4 were within seconds of each other.
I knew a pass after the safety car probably wasn't going to happen but having Charles angry and crying for the engine modes kept me on edge a little wondering if he'd try something crazy.
I missed Bottas being asked to slow down for Hamilton though that was a bit stupid.

Would have been very well deserved for Leclerc to go 3 for 3. Weird strat from Ferrari, Charles didn't put a foot wrong, without that call it'd been a good win for him.
Other than that, first one-two in a very long while, Vettel needed that win as well for morale, we'll see how things go.
