V8 Supercars Bathurst

G'night Mark. :(

That's terribly sad. I feel for his family - he leaves behind a wife and one-year old son.

Does anyone know if the Fujitsu series has onboard cams in all the cars like the main game? An investigation will be run into how the accident happened. One driver claimed he saw oil leaking from the back of Porters car....

Not sure if the Dev. Series cars have the onboard cams - but a Ten replay showed what looked like fluid coming out of the back of the Porter car.

Radisich out of action for rest of season
Release Date: 11/10/2006

Team Kiwi Racing driver Paul Radisich will be out of action for the remainder of the V8 Supercar season. He has suffered a broken sternum and broken ankle as a result of a high speed accident at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mt Panorama on Sunday. Radisich hit a tyre wall at more than 200kph after attempting to avoid another car.

Team Kiwi Racing owner David John said Radisich also suffered windpipe bruising and was having some difficulty breathing as a result of the injuries but would make a full recovery.

Radisich was expected to be discharged from hospital in Sydney in the next 48 hours and would return back to Melbourne with his wife Patricia.

However he will not return to racing this season, although is keen to get back behind the driver?s wheel as soon as possible.

Mr John said the relatively minor nature of the injuries was a testament to the car design and the safety measures including the HANs safety device. He also praised the swift intervention of the emergency crews.

Mr John said no decision had been made on a replacement driver.

Aside from those injuries, it's good to hear that he's alright and keen to get back behind the wheel. Wishing him all the best with a speedy recovery.

Can't drive with a broken ankle...fair enough.

So no replacement driver...yet. Wonder who it'll be. Maybe Ellery?

Injuries aside - Team Kiwi don't even have a car for Radisich to drive. The written-off Bathurst car was their one and only Commodore, and with their switch to Ford next year they're not about to go out and buy another Commodore. TEGA has granted them dispensation for not competing at the Gold Coast, but after that they face large penalties if they don't compete.

Pretty harsh but rules are rules I guess.

I was reading in todays newspaper that the damage costs to the TKR car is more then $400,000, TKR had sold the Holden for $400,000 and were expected to recieve the money after Bathurst - they obviously can't sell the car now.

They are looking at leasing a V8 from the development series and get a dev. series driver to drive for them for the remainder of the year. They can miss two races this season because they are classified in Cat.2 which is different to the rest of the teams - not sure of the differences. They face fines of $150, 000 per round they miss after that.

The $400, 000 they were to recieve for the Holden was going to be used to buy their Ford, now they aren't sure if they will be able to raise $400,000 to buy one, so they might now compete in 2007.

aren't development series cars the older models of the commdore/falcon?... they even had AU's racing in development series

Back when Lowndes had his roll overs in the VT at Calder Park some years back, HRT used a VS backup car for a few rounds after the crash.

TKR have set-up a fund to help raise money to buy the new car - if you are interested in donating you can go to any ANZ Branch in Australia of New Zealand and donate. If they don't raise the required $400,000 those who donated will get their money back.
