Nice bike. I guess this means Serbaru will be getting even less love.

(Updated the last two posts with photos with some location details, since I skipped that when I originally posted them.)

No real updates other than that I've been riding a fair bit. I think I'm at 2,500 miles or so at this point. Still a blast, still the right bike. Added a second helmet hook for convenience.

I went on an awesome ride last weekend with some FJ/Tracer buddies. The FJ is the one I nearly bought before the XSR. We rode along the coast and through some canyons, and even visited the Point Mugu Missile Park.

Dual helmet hooks, hell yeah!

I tested out whether I can ride to a conference in November without any extra luggage (click through for a silly video):

And an OK shot of me with the bike:

Really need to finish up the signal install… :D

A little while ago I got a great little tail bag. The bag itself is perfect, but the only way to reasonably mount it to the bike is to the rear subframe, under the passenger seat. This means I have to unclip it every time I want to use my helmet lock, which is basically every time I stop anywhere except home. As a result, I started leaving it at home unless I knew I'd need it, and started finding myself without it in situations where it would be super handy. That's silly.

I've always resisted getting a top case. Honestly, my main reason is that it wouldn't look that great on a retro bike, but I also don't need that much space and don't want to spend that much money. And then I realized getting just a rack could be the perfect solution.

So I ordered a Givi SR2126: http://giviusa.com/my-motorcycle/yamaha/xsr700-16-17/sr2126-specific-rear-rack-detail

The rack supports both Monolock and Monokey cases, should I ever care to upgrade. In the meantime, it should make for a nice platform for my tail bag. Much excite.

That's a nice thing about my FJ09, I can tie the tail bag to the grab bars, no need to remove the seat.

It's been two weeks and the rack still hasn't shipped. Italians…

For reasons I've not yet shared, the bike will become even more important in my life after I move this weekend. As a result, I've started seriously considering a top case. The current contenders are Givi's V47 and 52L Trekker.

V47:

Trekker:

I was gonna get the V47 since a few of my riding buddies love theirs, but the Trekker is 5L larger while being only .4" wider. And I think I like its looks better, too. Decisions, decisions…

Hang on, this is the wrong mounting plate…

Why not mock it up while I wait for the correct part to arrive?

Oh, the sadness: Ecksy was stolen from my friend's garage Friday night (aka Saturday morning).

Well fuck. Insurance?

Yep, I just sent him the price list of all the gizmos I attached to the bike for completeness of police report and insurance claim. Hopefully that part of the experience is relatively painless.

But sucks. And going through this thread made me super nostalgic, too. I really enjoyed the fact that a bike I parted ways with way too soon went to a good friend and I got to see it in action often. Bummer.

Update: We've recovered the bike, in seemingly perfect condition. More deets later as appropriate given police and insurance developments.
