The European Refugee Situation

Forty? Feels like a hundred. Especially because not even half of the population voted for her couple of years ago.

... more to the point 59% of voters voted against her in the last election (for another party that is, Germany has a coalition government, Merkels Party got 41% of the votes last time around, hence 59% voted for other cancellors). 40% saying she should step down seems like an improvement ...

yeah, Milchm?dchenrechnung (look it up) I know. But the point stands, it?s not like she?s won the elections with 80% or something (33% only in 2009). There are a lot of people (like myself) that generally oppose her and her governments policies.

Which is relevant how? People who don't vote would vote for someone other than Merkel, just by magic?

71 is ok. 71 is decent. It's not Switzerland.

The European Refugee Situation

Maybe more like self defense? SPIEGEL Online has deactivated their forum on all refugee topics months ago because of the hateful racist bullshit and the aggressive personal attacks.

Norway's Dagbladet recently gave up on comment sections. Too much racist bullshit. Couldn't put up an article about cats playing the piano without idiots going "SHARIA BANS MUSIC" or something.

Against ad revenue?
A newspaper decides what it prints. If it doesn't, it isn't a newspaper, it's a blog service

Some information from a probably racist Nazi evil Hitler source in Swedish. Essentially Daily Fail allegedly say they've self-censored so they can't be held responsible for spreading information that could affect the "15-year-old's" trial, including suggesting that he may actually be older than 15. I presume no mainstream Swedish outlet (other than The Local) has published the pictures (or reported anything on the story), because racism. But it's probably a pretty good decision on DM's part, as any and all publicity given to criminals (immigrants, anyway) is now grounds for a reduced sentence in Finland, and I'm sure Finnish judges would be more than happy to instruct their Swedish colleagues. Finnish newspapers had the audacity to report on an underage girl's gang rape last year, and publicity was an actual reason for a reduced sentence. No one went to jail, obviously. But I'm sure the court will make the just decision in this case.
EDIT: Oh and because they release the name and picture of suspects.

Can't seem to find any news stories about that gang rape in Finland, care to share one?

The DM has a long and pathetic tradition of publishing names and pictures of accused criminals. I always find it distasteful. As for Swedish judges, they don't take instruction from Finnish judges.

What's wrong with publishing the names of suspects? Should Saddam, Osama, Ratko Mladic and Breivik not have been named until they were sentenced/dead? Daily Mail call him the suspect, which he absolutely is. Even if he's found not guilty, it would seem very likely that he is somehow involved in the case. If someone else is found guilty, his name will be cleared. If no one is found guilty (which unfortunately isn't impossible), he probably has information that would help in solving the case. And I think he owes it to the Swedish people to help prosecution, having fled from dangerous conditions in Somalia. Surely he wouldn't want to foster such an environment in his new home land?

And you know there is Nordic co-operation in many fields. The judge even had a Swedish name (not uncommon in Finland, but does indicate that he may even have Swedish connections). I'm sure Swedish judges will know of the case anyway and wouldn't object to using that as a BS excuse for letting immigrants off the hook.

Also, Finnish police revealed last year's crime statistics. Apparently the 24% increase in immigrants' share of rapes and 20% increase in their share of violent crime "don't really show in the statistics". And that doesn't include NYE's events.

That's just silly.

They're suspects. Not convicted. You make exceptions from time to time. But the DM publishes them as a rule, not an exception.

Should Saddam, Osama, Ratko Mladic and Breivik not have been named until they were sentenced/dead?
They're either dictators, terrorists, genocidal maniacs or a terrorist again. So they're clear exceptions.

Daily Mail call him the suspect, which he absolutely is. Even if he's found not guilty, it would seem very likely that he is somehow involved in the case. If someone else is found guilty, his name will be cleared.
People who have their names cleared are followed by suspicion for decades afterwards. So no, they don't get their names cleared. Not in reality.

If no one is found guilty (which unfortunately isn't impossible), he probably has information that would help in solving the case. And I think he owes it to the Swedish people to help prosecution, having fled from dangerous conditions in Somalia. Surely he wouldn't want to foster such an environment in his new home land?
Please point out where I've said he should be stum and not help the prosecution?

And you know there is Nordic co-operation in many fields.
I know. But you obvisouly don't know the first thing about its limits.

The judge even had a Swedish name (not uncommon in Finland, but does indicate that he may even have Swedish connections).
Finland used to be a part of Sweden. So there is a large number of Finnish Swedes. It still has absolutely nothing to do with what you erronously claimed.

I'm sure Swedish judges will know of the case anyway and wouldn't object to using that as a BS excuse for letting immigrants off the hook.
That's because you don't know what you're talking about.

Also, Finnish police revealed last year's crime statistics. Apparently the 24% increase in immigrants' share of rapes and 20% increase in their share of violent crime "don't really show in the statistics". And that doesn't include NYE's events.
Wouldn't surprise me. Still doesn't change my outlook.

What's wrong with publishing the names of suspects?

Supposed to be more judicial process than media circus like in the US.

Apparently, a teenage girl admitted to making up the migrant rape claim in Germany...

A 13-year-old Russian-German girl has admitted making up a story about being kidnapped and raped by migrants in a case that triggered a furore in Germany and briefly embroiled Berlin police in a spat with the Kremlin, state prosecutors said.

The parents of the teenager, named only as Lisa, reported her missing on 11 January after she failed to appear at school in the Marzahn district of the capital. She reappeared 30 hours later with injuries on her face, and told her parents she had been attacked by men of Middle Eastern or north African appearance. News of the incident spread on social media, sparking outrage among Berlin?s Russian-German community.

But when she was questioned by trained specialists three days later ?she immediately admitted that the story of the rape was not true?, said the spokesman for the state prosecutor, Martin Steltner.

He said the teenager had been scared of going home after the school had contacted her parents over an incident at school.

Yet the allegations caused uproar in Berlin, particularly after reports of mass sexual assaults allegedly carried out by migrants in Cologne. A Russian-German community group staged a protest, supported by the Pegida-related B?rgida movement. The far-right National Democratic party also demonstrated in Marzahn.

The mood was exacerbated by a report on Russian state TV, in which the girl?s relatives claimed her allegations were not being investigated.

The Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, also weighed in to criticise the Berlin authorities. ?The news that she disappeared was kept secret for a very long time,? he told a press conference, blaming ?political correctness?.

Analysis of the teenager?s mobile phone records showed she had spent the night with a friend, who is not being treated as a suspect.

Her mother told Der Spiegel magazine on Sunday that Lisa was ?doing very badly? and was having treatment in a psychiatric ward.

Let's hope she gets some help and love from her family.

Some other sites' coverage is a bit more complete:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...-berlin-was-actually-staying-at-a6843786.html
Although no evidence of forced sexual relations were found, prosecutors opened an investigation into possible statutory rape charges because the girl is under the age of consent, which is 14 in Germany.

Mr Steltner said that investigators now believe that she had had sex with two men in their 20s, ?a Turkish citizen and a German of Turkish origin? who may now be charged.

Police had initially said there was no evidence of a crime and appealed for people to ?handle the subject sensitively? on social media as conspiracy theories spread, with videos and Facebook posts being viewed millions of times.

So it does sound like a crime took place, and there is still a criminal investigation, but nobody seems to know or care very much (not the press, certainly) whether anyone will be charged. But everyone (police and press) still cares very much about tightly controlling all the PR around the case.

I can see why the Guardian thought it best to begin censoring all comments on "race, immigration and Islam" articles, lest they be called out for blatantly omitting information like that.

[...]So it does sound like a crime took place, and there is still a criminal investigation,

Just that the crime we?re talking about now is a different one than the one this story started out with, especially the girl being kidnapped by refugees being of the table now ... and if "statutory rape" will even be something to "stick" with a victim that made up a kidnapping because she was afraid to face her parents because of some problems at school ...

Either way - no longer something for the "the european refugee situation" thread. Another one for the pile of made up or exaggerated stories trying to make the problems with refugees look bigger than they are.

The European Refugee Situation

I believe I mentioned this case a few pages before. It was apparently used and blown out of proportion mainly by Russian media, presumably motivated by the Russian political leadership in order to make propaganda against refugees and to discredit the German behavior in the crisis.

Russian economy is still in a downwards spiral and the current low oil prices are boosting it even more, so Putin is very likely trying to draw the attention of the Russian people towards something else.

Little side note: it appears that those countries which are actively involved in the war against the IS, are very much behind with paying to help refugees -- which they had agreed to do.
