Trump Administration Says It Won't Comply With Impeachment Inquiry

The White House will not participate in Congress' ongoing impeachment inquiry, it said Tuesday, stepping up a political and legal standoff between the executive and legislative branches of government.

In a blistering eight-page letter to Democratic congressional leaders, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, White House counsel Pat Cipollone repeatedly mocked the Democrats' process.

It "lacks any legitimate constitutional foundation" and is simply an effort to "nullify the outcome of the democratic process" by reversing the outcome of the 2016 election and influence the upcoming 2020 election, he wrote.

Moreover, Cipollone argued that because there has been no formal vote to begin an impeachment inquiry, there is no official process underway and accordingly the administration is not required to comply.

In a fiery response, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the letter "manifestly wrong."

"The White House should be warned that continued efforts to hide the truth of the President's abuse of power from the American people will be regarded as further evidence of obstruction," she said in a statement Tuesday night.

I will agree that 12% puts you in the ballpark, however, the average return on the S&P isn't even as high as the 10% that I stated.

https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/042415/what-average-annual-return-sp-500.asp

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/06/18/the-sp-500-has-already-met-its-average-return-for-a-full-year.html
Maybe I'd they're taking inflation into account, idk. When I first saw the 12% figure I wanted to verify it and I was able to do so - don't have the spreadsheet on my phone. Even if we go with 9%, you have to invest around $220/mo to get close to a million. Again, that assumes you save for 40 years, which might be a bit low for most people.

That seems to be the circular (il)logic that Trump and his team are using. We will see how it works for him.

Does lead to an interesting question, if he is in fact impeached and removed from office but refuses to leave, how would that get handled.

It's all for show anyways - Dems don't even have the votes to impeach in the House, never mind the Senate. That's why Pelosi hasn't even brought this up for a vote.

It's all being done by the moderate Dems to guarantee Trump's re-election in 2020 and stave off the likes of grandpa Biden and commie Warren.

Trump is a bigger commie than anyone, loves commie dictators, gives away billions in subsidies, make work military schemes etc.

Warren could be good. Pro consumer and not afraid to take on vested interests.

Away Pelosi might be President before that.

This is confusing, first y'all saying that his all about making the rich get richer and now his a commie? Those are kind of opposite ends of the spectrum...

Trump Urged Top Aide to Help Giuliani Client Facing DOJ Charges

President Donald Trump pressed then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to help persuade the Justice Department to drop a criminal case against an Iranian-Turkish gold trader who was a client of Rudy Giuliani, according to three people familiar with the 2017 meeting in the Oval Office.

Tillerson refused, arguing it would constitute interference in an ongoing investigation of the trader, Reza Zarrab, according to the people. They said other participants in the Oval Office were shocked by the request.

Tillerson immediately repeated his objections to then-Chief of Staff John Kelly in a hallway conversation just outside the Oval Office, emphasizing that the request would be illegal. Neither episode has been previously reported, and all of the people spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the conversations.

No, they are still investigating.
Dems aren't bringing impeachment up for a vote simply because a) they'd lose, and b) that would give subpoena power to the Reps and Biden would be in deep doo-doo. It's better for the Dems to just keep stalling and bad-mouthing Trump with made-up stories like Schiff's.

What story did Schiff make up?

I do find it funny that you are trying to defend him from "bad-mouthing" when he has made bad-mouthing his primary means of communication.

With the way Trump is burning bridges, he is losing support fast. Polls are also shifting fast. Support for both an inquiry, are way ahead of where it was at for Nixon at this point. So, if there aren't enough votes there already, there soon will be. By the way, only a simple majority is needed.

Trump tries to defend his betrayal at Kurds by saying they didn't help the US in WWII or Normandy.

America, your word is worth that of a lying salesman with the dignity of a wet paper towel.

What a shame.
