Here's some extra happy news, especially if you're into that whole turbocharged, AWD rally thing. Autocar reports that legendary English engine tuner Cosworth has gotten its mitts all over the mighty Subaru WRX STI. Described as a "one-off, special project," it sounds as if Cosworth will be tweaking the engine, suspension and body. Long story short: YES!

As for details, we don't have any. Autocar says that specifications and pricing will become available when closer to the car's on sale date in March. A Cosworth spokesperson has said that the improved upon STI, "will raise the bar for all-wheel-drive, high-performance motoring." Sounds good to us, especially as the current STI has always felt about 85 percent finished to us. For what it's worth, Cosworth has a pretty special history when it comes to tuning rally cars. Ford RS200 anyone? We'll let you know more as soon as we can.

Cause I screwed up, sorry I was tired and couldn't sleep. Where is the other thread?

Why one-off ?
Why not permanetly ?

The first official photos [high-res] of the hotly anticipated Cosworth edition of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI hatchback are out in the open. Set to go on sale in this June in the UK only and in a limited-run of just 75 units, the Cosworth Impreza STI CS400 promises to bring supercar-like performance figures to the hot hatch segment.

Starting with the Impreza STI's 2.5-liter boxer unit, Cosworth's engineers installed new high-performance pistons, connecting rods, head gasket and bearings. The tune-up also includes a remapped ECU, modified turbocharger and wastegate, and a custom exhaust system.

The result is an impressive output of 400PS (395bhp) at 5,750rpm, sufficient to dispatch the Cosworth Impreza STI CS400 from zero to 62mph (100km/h) in a mere 3.7 seconds. In comparison, the standard 300PS (296bhp) Impreza WRX STI completes the 0-62mph sprint in 5.2 seconds.

Subaru reports that the Cosworth Impreza STI CS400 also gets a revamped suspension with new coil springs and a 10mm lower ride-height as well as a bespoke brake package with six-pot callipers and 355mm discs at the front that was developed in partnership with AP Racing.

In the styling department, the changes are extremely subtle consisting of a redesigned front bumper with an integrated lower spoiler and a mesh grille, Cosworth logos, a different rear spoiler and specific 18-inch alloy wheels.

Finally, the limited edition Impreza STI CS400 gets a pair of Recaro bucket seats, glossy black dashboard trim and Cosworth badges.

I want to see an engine shot. Although it may be hard to see a Cosworth valve cover on a flat 4...

Still badass though.

The Subaru WRX is the new Escort RS as far as I am concerned. Good job Subaru.

<3

Do want.

I'd prefer if they made a Focus Cosworth :)

Oh. Yes. Please.

Pity it's UK only and limited release... :(

Cosworth has been making Subaru engines for at least 5 years now, or at least reworking them. Very comparable to the Crawford Performance and Cobb engines and heads from what I have heard, but with a more pedigreed name behind them. Its really cool to see that they have finally put their name behind a whole car now too. I'm sure that all the stuff they do will make it the next step up over an already very capable vehicle. 3.7 second to 62 is getting into Porsche 911 turbo territory, and I imagine the handling will be decent too. Very cool, and the styling is nicely and tastefully done as well.

So the ability to make a sub-400 horsepower limited edition car for $72,000 (You could, for this money, get a brand new 550 horsepower corvette, or a NICE used dodge viper) is "Magic" somehow?
